Past Perfect – Thì Quá Khứ Hoàn Thành

Usage – Cách dùng

Dùng thì Past Perfect khi muốn diễn tả:

1. Một hành động đã xảy ra và hoàn thành trước một hành động khác trong quá khứ.

2. Một hành động đã xảy ra trước một thời điểm nhất định trong quá khứ.

Form – Cấu trúc

(+) Câu khẳng định (Affirmative)

S + had + V3 (past participle) + (O)

I had finished my homework before my mom came home. (Tôi đã làm xong bài tập trước khi mẹ về nhà.)

By the time she arrived, they had left the restaurant. (Khi cô ấy đến nơi, họ đã rời khỏi nhà hàng.)

(-) Câu phủ định (Negative)

S + had not (hadn’t) + V3

I hadn’t seen her before the party. (Tôi chưa gặp cô ấy trước bữa tiệc.)

(?) Câu hỏi (Questions)

Had + S + V3…?

Had you eaten before you arrived? (Bạn đã ăn trước khi đến chưa?)

Mixed Conditionals – Câu điều kiện hỗn hợp

What are Mixed Conditionals? – Câu điều kiện hỗn hợp là gì?

Mixed conditionals là loại câu điều kiện kết hợp các yếu tố của câu điều kiện loại 2 (không có thật ở hiện tại) và câu điều kiện loại 3 (không có thật trong quá khứ).

Types of Mixed Conditionals – Các dạng câu điều kiện hỗn hợp

Type 1: Unreal Past → Present Result

Dùng để diễn tả một sự việc không có thật trong quá khứ nhưng ảnh hưởng tới hiện tại.

Form – Cấu trúc:

If + had + V3, S + would/could/might + V (bare infinitive)

Examples – Ví dụ:

If I had studied harder, I would have a better job now. (Nếu tôi đã học chăm chỉ hơn, tôi đã có một công việc tốt hơn bây giờ.)

If she had taken the bus, she would be here by now. (Nếu cô ấy đã đi xe buýt, cô ấy đã có mặt ở đây ngay bây giờ rồi.)

Type 2: Unreal Present → Past Result

Dùng để diễn tả một tình huống không có thật ở hiện tại dẫn đến hậu quả trong quá khứ.

Form – Cấu trúc:

If + S + V2/ed, S + would/could/might + have + V3

Examples – Ví dụ:

If I were taller, I could have joined the basketball team. (Nếu tôi cao hơn, tôi đã có thể tham gia đội bóng rổ.)

If she spoke English fluently, she would have gotten the job. (Nếu cô ấy nói tiếng Anh trôi chảy, cô ấy đã nhận được công việc đó.)
