What is the Past Continuous? – Thì Quá Khứ Tiếp Diễn là gì?
Past Continuous (Quá khứ tiếp diễn) được dùng để diễn tả một hành động đang xảy ra tại một thời điểm cụ thể trong quá khứ hoặc một hành động đang diễn ra thì có hành động khác xen vào.
Usage – Cách dùng
Diễn tả một hành động đang diễn ra tại một thời điểm cụ thể trong quá khứ
At 8 PM last night, I was watching TV.(Lúc 8 giờ tối qua, tôi đang xem TV.)
Diễn tả hai hành động xảy ra đồng thời trong quá khứ
She was reading while he was cooking. (Cô ấy đang đọc sách trong khi anh ấy đang nấu ăn.)
Diễn tả một hành động đang diễn ra thì có hành động khác xen vào
I was walking home when it started to rain. (Tôi đang đi bộ về nhà thì trời bắt đầu mưa.)
Miêu tả bối cảnh của một câu chuyện trong quá khứ
The sun was shining, and the birds were singing. (Mặt trời đang chiếu sáng, và những con chim đang hót.)
Form – Cấu trúc
(+) Affirmative (Khẳng định)
S + was/were + V-ing + (O)
She was studying at 10 PM.
They were playing football in the park.
(-) Negative (Phủ định)
S + was/were not (wasn’t/weren’t) + V-ing + (O)
He was not (wasn’t) listening to music.
We were not (weren’t) talking about you.
(?) Interrogative (Câu hỏi)
Was/Were + S + V-ing + (O)?
Was she sleeping when you called?
Were they working on the project?
