Second Conditional – Câu điều kiện loại 2

Usage – Cách dùng

Dùng để nói về:

1. Giả định không có thật ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai.

2. Tình huống giả định không thể xảy ra ngay tại thời điểm nói.

Form – Cấu trúc

If + S + V2/ed (past simple), S + would/could/might + V (bare infinitive)

Examples – Ví dụ:

• If I had a million dollars, I would travel around the world. (Nếu tôi có một triệu đô, tôi sẽ đi du lịch vòng quanh thế giới.)

• If she knew his number, she would call him. (Nếu cô ấy biết số điện thoại của anh ấy, cô ấy sẽ gọi cho anh ấy.)

• If I were you, I would accept the job offer. (Nếu tôi là bạn, tôi sẽ nhận lời mời công việc đó.)

❗ Lưu ý: Trong câu điều kiện loại 2, với động từ “to be”, ta luôn dùng “were” với tất cả các ngôi.

Third Conditional – Câu điều kiện loại 3

Usage – Cách dùng

Dùng để nói về:

1. Một tình huống trong quá khứ không thể thay đổi được.

2. Giả định trái ngược với những gì đã xảy ra trong quá khứ.

Form – Cấu trúc

If + S + had + V3 (past perfect), S + would/could/might + have + V3

Examples – Ví dụ:

• If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam. (Nếu tôi đã học chăm hơn, tôi đã đỗ kỳ thi rồi.)

• If she had arrived earlier, she would have caught the bus. (Nếu cô ấy đến sớm hơn, cô ấy đã bắt được xe buýt rồi.)

• If they hadn’t forgotten the keys, they wouldn’t have been locked out. (Nếu họ không quên chìa khóa, họ đã không bị khóa ngoài cửa.)
