Bị động với động từ tường thuật (Reporting verbs)

Dạng 1:  Thường dùng với: say, think, believe, know, report, consider, expect, estimate, allege…

It + be + V3 + that + clause

Ví dụ: People say (that) he is rich. 

→ It is said that he is rich.

Dạng 2: Khi chủ ngữ trong mệnh đề sau được đẩy lên làm chủ ngữ của câu bị động.

S + be + V3/ed + to V nguyên mẫu. (tình huống hiện tại)

S + be + V3/ed + to have V3/Ved (tình huống quá khứ)

Ví dụ:

• People believe he works hard. → He is believed to work hard.

• People think she left early. → She is thought to have left early.

Bị động với động từ có 2 tân ngữ

Một số động từ có thể có 2 tân ngữ (ai đó + cái gì đó): give, send, tell, offer, show, lend, award, pay…

Ta có 2 cách chuyển sang bị động:

Dạng 1:  Tân ngữ gián tiếp (người nhận) làm chủ ngữ

S + modal + be + V3/Ved + O (vật)

Ví dụ:

• They gave her a gift. → She was given a gift.

Dạng 2: Tân ngữ trực tiếp (vật) làm chủ ngữ

S + be + V3/Ved + to/for + O (người)

→ A gift was given to her./ A cake was made for her.

Bị động với động từ khuyết thiếu (Modal verbs)

Các động từ khiếm khuyết (modal verbs) phổ biến: must, can, will, may, might, …

S + modal verb + be + V3/Ved

Ví dụ:

• You must finish the report. → The report must be finished.

Bị động với cụm động từ (Phrasal verbs)

Cụm động từ (Phrasal Verbs) là sự kết hợp giữ một động từ chính và một giới từ/trạng từ, tạo thành một nghĩa mới. [Phrasal verb = verb + particle (preposition/adverb)]

S + be + V3/Ved + particle (giới từ/trạng từ)

Ví dụ:

• They looked after the baby. → The baby was looked after.
