What are Reduced Relative Clauses: Reduced Relative Clauses là gì?

Reduced Relative Clause (mệnh đề quan hệ rút gọn) là một cách rút ngắn mệnh đề quan hệ nhằm làm câu gọn hơn nhưng vẫn giữ nguyên ý nghĩa.

→  Dùng để diễn đạt ngắn gọn hơn mệnh đề có who, which, that.

Usage - Cách dùng

Dùng khi mệnh đề quan hệ ở dạng chủ động hoặc bị động, có thể rút gọn như sau:

Chủ động → V-ing

• Full: The man who is talking to her is my brother.

• Reduced: The man talking to her is my brother.

Rút “who is” → V-ing

Bị động → V3/ed

• Full: The book that was written by Orwell is famous.

• Reduced: The book written by Orwell is famous.

Rút “that was” → V3/ed

Examples - Ví dụ

• Students who study hard will pass the exam.→ Students studying hard will pass the exam.

• The house which was built in 1990 is still new.→ The house built in 1990 is still new.

• The girl who is singing is my sister.→ The girl singing is my sister.
