What is Subjunctive mood? - Subjunctive Mood là gì?

Subjunctive mood là thể giả định trong tiếng Anh, dùng để diễn tả:

• Một điều ước, một tình huống không có thật ở hiện tại hoặc quá khứ.👉 I wish I were taller. (Ước gì tôi cao hơn – sự việc không thật)

• Một lời khuyên, yêu cầu, đề nghị hoặc mệnh lệnh gián tiếp.👉 The teacher suggested that he study harder. (Giáo viên đề nghị anh ấy học chăm hơn)

Cách dùng & cấu trúc Subjunctive Mood

Dùng sau các động từ yêu cầu, đề nghị, khuyên bảo

Các động từ thường gặp: suggest, recommend, insist, demand, request, advise, propose, ask…

Cấu trúc: S + V (suggest/recommend/insist…) + that + S + V nguyên mẫu

Note: Không chia động từ trong mệnh đề that, dù chủ ngữ là số ít.

Ví dụ:

• I suggest that he be on time.

• The doctor recommends that she take a rest.

Sau tính từ thể hiện sự cần thiết, quan trọng

Tính từ thường gặp: important, necessary, essential, vital, urgent, advisable, obligatory…

Cấu trúc: It + be + adj + that + S + V nguyên mẫu

Ví dụ:

• It’s essential that every student attend the meeting.

• It’s important that she be present.

Câu điều ước, câu giả định, câu không có thật

1. Câu điều ước (wish):

Cấu trúc:

• S + wish + S + V2/ed (cho hiện tại)

• S + wish + S + had + past participle (V3/Ved) (cho quá khứ)

Ví dụ:

• I wish I knew his name. (Nhưng tôi không biết)

• She wishes she had gone to the party. (Nhưng cô ấy không đi)

  
  

2. Câu điều kiện không thật:

• If I were you, I would…

• If he had studied, he would have passed.

Lưu ý: Trong Subjunctive Mood, “were” được dùng cho tất cả các chủ ngữ.
